I originally trained in Textiles ,Fashion and History of Costume in the early 1980s, where I discovered a passion for costume and have been lucky enough to work in theatre, TV and film ever since.  I believe that the best costume design comes from a thorough Emerson in the themes of the piece ,reference and research, With collaboration being an integral part of Character based design.My many years of costume making and tailoring,dyeing, painting, millinery ,and a grounding in understanding how materials work ,as well as wardrobe supervision, enable me to bring many skills to the design process.  As a freelance costume designer, I am based in Liverpool, UK, but am lucky enough to travel all over the world.  

• Career highlights: Akhnaten (ENO,LA Opera, MetropolitanOpera , which won an Olivier Award for best production.He also received an Olivier Award nomination for his designs for Shockheaded Peter, which toured internationally. Recent work includes Ernani, Hansel and Gretel (La Scala); King Arthur (Berlin Staatsoper); A Funny Thing…Forum(Royal National Theatre); The Magic Flute (Welsh National Opera); Aida, Satyagraha, The Pearl Fishers (English National Opera, Metropolitan Opera); L’amour de loin (ENO, Canadian Opera Company); The Enchanted Island (Metropolitan Opera); Aida (ENO).Other designs include Danny Champion of the World, Beasts and Beauties (Spike Theatre); Beauty and the Beast (Improbable and Young Vic). He won the critics’ award for best design in theater 2012-15 for Ménage à trois (Scottish National Theatre); Mackie Messer (Salzburg Festival 2015). He also lectures in Costume and Theatre.
